Then I got some words of wisdom from Mike. He reminded me that we aren't the kind of people who want a wedding with a plated three course meal at a four star hotel. Then he told me that I'm not the kind of girl who would blow the bank on a dress I'll only wear once. Both pieces of information true.
But mostly what I got from Mike's advice was that it didn't matter how little money we had to work with, just as long as the day screamed "US." He couldn't be more right about that. So together we came up with a list of things that we both love and would want present at the wedding - one of these entities being Mista David Bowie.
We love Bowie. Hard. Our song is "Heroes," so obviously our first dance will be to that tune. Also, we plan to walk down the aisle to "Soul Love," and for the recessional we're going to play "Moonage Daydream." My little sis plays electric guitar and sings so I'm hoping she'll play something Bowie at our ceremony.
As for decoration inspiration, I do like simple... but am willing to go bold. So I found a compromise. The color inspiration is none other than the album cover of "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars."
I love the colors because there's a little bit of everything. Blues, yellow, greens, even a little red from the brick. I don't exactly know how these colors will manifest themselves at our wedding, but it is the inspiration for the affair nonetheless.
This got me thinking about other album cover inspiration. Here's a few that would make killer color palettes:
Let it Bleed, Stones. Totally fun and bold color palette for someone who wants to throw in some pastel colors.
Funeral, Arcade Fire. I recently went to a wedding that incorporated grey-blue with orange and it was just stunning. Totally unique.
Pablo Honey & Ok Computer, Radiohead. These could be inspiration on their own, but I think the two together look totally awesome.
Places Like This, Chemical Bros. So if you're balls-crazy and bold, I suggest this one. I'd sure as hell show up to this party. Probably get really effin' wasted too.
Anyone have any album art inspiration to share?
