The Bride Took the Bus...

(source)

Our hotel is less than a couple miles away from the venue. So we could either blow hundreds of dollars on a 5 minute limo ride, or we could just take the damn bus. I mean, the bus literally stops directly outside the hotel and lands directly in front of the venue.

How rad would those pics be? Me, Mike, our wedding party, our parents…dressed to the nines, all hopping on the public bus. I love mixing the gritty with the elegant. For example, I tend to like pictures of brides in front of graffiti covered walls more so than brides standing in fields of flowers. It’s just more fun to look at! Speaking of that, I can’t wait til we see the faces of the other patrons riding the bus when we all get on. Me, in my white gown, paying a $1.25 for a ride to my wedding - we’re bound to get a few stares and laughs - which we will totally welcome. Not only is it going to be awesome, but it will be GREEN! In fact, we are going to encourage ALL of our wedding guests to take the bus as well. Sure, the Los Angeles bus system can be slightly intimidating, but I figure if we provide all the pertinent information, tell them what time to leave the hotel, and encourage them to travel in big groups, I think it will work beautifully. But of course, they are all welcome to rent a car, take a taxi, ride a horse, hop a pogo stick, or sprout wings and fly - as long as they're on time, mama couldn't care less.

I was so thrilled when I found another bride out there who’s taken the city bus to her nuptials. Anna, a bride from New Zealand, wanted to take the bus because it’s eco-friendly, she rides the bus everyday anyway, and the bus route traveled directly by her venue. So she just thought it made perfect sense. Check out these pics: So cool!

If taking public transportation to your wedding sounds like a good idea, just go to your city’s metro website. There, you should be able to find a trip planner where you can enter your starting and ending location that will in turn provide you a list of bus routes that cater to it. SoCal brides: visit metro.net to access Los Angeles’s public transpo trip planner.

What do you guys think of taking the bus? Do you know any other green brides that decided to rock the public transpo? What about guests? I’d be interested to hear your experience - the good AND the bad!

  1. YEEEEEEEEES! I've been taking the bus and train a lot more now that I live more centrally and LOVE it. I have dreams of taking Metro on our wedding day with our guests (screw the shuttle bus) but it really all depends on the venue we eventually get.

Other public transport weddings (not in LA, boo): http://www.apracticalwedding.com/2009/03/kim-pauls-impromptu-irreverent-nyc.html

And psst - don't forget to check google trip planner too, which finally has Metro integration and (fingers crossed) will soon have the other regional transit buses too (DASH, Santa Monica Big Blue, etc).
