Dude. My Dad kicks assssssss.Remember when I told you he's making homemade beer and honey wine for the wedding? WELL, he has sent me an update documenting the honey wine's fermentation process so far. And I couldn't be more excited to taste it! It's going to be the ultimate jam. He has informed me that everything is on track and will be ready to serve come July 31, 2010! It's hilarious that the mead is taking just as long to prepare for the wedding as we are! It will surely be a treat when it's ready to drink and WELL worth the wait. I can feeeeeeel it.
The name of the honey wine is this:
"Mithrandir's Blackberry Meluvor Wedding Mead"
"Mithrandir's Blackberry Meluvor Wedding Mead"
If you can guess the Lord of the Rings reference, congratulations. You've proved yourself to be just as nerdy as I am. For those of you who ever wondered what it looks like to make honey wine, check it out:
Dad: Above I am "racking" or syphoning the mead from the primary to the secondary, leaving behind all the old yeast ans solids, called "trub." Just prior to racking, I poured the 7 lbs. of blackberries into the secondary fermenter.
Dad: Above, gravity reading being taken.

Dad: The secondary fermenter bubbling away yesterday at 1 bbl/sec.

Dad: Close up of the new fermentation lock used when fermentation slows down: it's more sensitive than the first one. See the bubble just starting to go through the lock on it's left half?

Thank you for sending the update, Dad! Anyone out there serve homemade booze at your wedding? Was it a hit?
