Forget Bowie Bride. Future Husband's Soulmate is His Cat.

Moe is our cat. Our fluffy, orange, Maine Coon cat, to be exact. A cat with a personality all his own. A cat who is, in the words of Savage Garden, Truly, Madly, Deeply in love with my future husband, Michael.  Moe sees my Michael as his soulmate. This ain't just a crush, yo. Moe is full on balls-in-love with Mike.  Not only do they sleep together... they SPOON each other. All night. In fact, I'd go as far as to say Mike and Moe are more soulmates than Mike and I are soulmates. Well, let me clarify.  I never believed in the word "soulmates" until I saw Mike and Moe together. As one. Human and cat. Together. As lovers.

Mike and Moe are besties. And I would love nothing more than for Moe to be somewhat present at our wedding.  But Moe can't walk down an aisle. No fuckin way. Moe is too scared to even leave our apartment, let alone be put on parade in front of 150 people.  So it slightly saddens me that such an important little creature won't be present on our big day... Here's why:

Moe was the first "joint purchase" we made together as a couple. We didn't even live together before we bought Moe together.  So in some small way, Moe has been part of the glue that's held Michael and I together.
Moe's been through it all. A summer alone with me in my Arizona apartment. The move from Arizona to Long Beach. The first time we got engaged. The move from Long Beach to Los Angeles.  The second time we got engaged. The hard times. The good times. The sexy times. The not so sexy times...
Yo. Moe-cat's been there.  So our Little Moe-Cat Sweetheart kinda holds this special place in our loins (heart = loins in this case, just roll with it).

But here's my question: How the foo-uck do you incorporate your cat into a wedding? You see, dog owners do that shit all the time.  Putting their sweet pitbulls in canine tuxedos. Or using their regal Great Danes as ring bearers. But hmmm... a cat... what the shit do you do with that?

Anyone out there incorporate your kitty-cat into your actual ceremony or reception? I'm interested in live appearance stories as well as picture/video appearances. 'Cause we have to bring Moe into the matrimony mix some how. It's a MUST! So float me your suggs, loves.

Um, how cute are Mike and Moe? I know, "waaaaaay." Their cuteness actually makes me want to vomit sometimes.

  1. It's in an art studio, so setup a projection on a blank wall of photos of you two with moe. Set it on an infinite loop so the cat will always be in the background along with you. Blown up so everyone can watch the whole night.

  2. So cute, I'm the third wheel to our maine coon Henry and my guy John who spend all night spooning.

Some interesting suggestions here http://www.wedaholic.com/archives/pets_at_weddings_tips_for_getting_your_dog_cat_or_even_horse_involved.php including sitting your cat in a cage for the ceremony.....

I don't think we're going to be able to include Henry in the wedding at all but we do have a gratuitous page of photos of him on the wedding website. Maybe a cat element to the invites or wedding stationary stuff if you're doing lots of paper bits, like the cool portrait these guys did http://beautifulpaper.typepad.com/oh_so_beautiful_paper/2008/10/real-invitati-1.html

  3. It always bugged me how it's ok for dog owners to feature their "babies" in their wedding, but if a (gasp!!) cat owner does it, they look crazy. Lame. I like the loop of photos idea from Anon. Maybe have some pics of Moe w/ you and Mike on the guestbook table? He definitely deserves to be seen. He's adorable!

We actually have 2 Maine Coons (at least we think they're Maine Coons. We adopted them from a shelter than randomly found them.) I'd love to find a way to incorporate them into the wedding, so I'll be watching to see what you end up doing!

  6. I think my cat Little Man may be my soulmate as well... but no way can we include him in a church ceremony. I think my fiance would veto anything involving pictures of the cat as table numbers, which I've seen, so basically he will just be in the slideshow some. HOWEVER -- we are doing an engagement shoot with our awesome photographers and I am determined to get some with the cat in there! Show all those dog people a thing or two... I'll let you know how it goes :)

  7. Haha, that's too funny. Even if it might bother you that they're soul mates, just be thankful that (unlike me) you don't have an allergy to cats. He might have been forced to choose between the two of you...

  8. i totally want to incorporate the cats too! funny i wrote about putting them in a cake topper today! Also if you do a photobooth, you could print a life sized cut out of him for people to pose with :)

  9. Funky cake topper of you guys with Moe?

  10. Love the life sized cut-out idea and a maine coon one would be pretty giant so might steal that idea.

Kat - Snap! We called ours that because he reminded us of Henry VIII all fat and ginger and he's now grown into a bit of a tyrant.

  11. HAHA!!! Eric is totally like this with our cat. What is with guys and cats? You should put Moe on a pillow and parade him around like the prince he is!

  12. our cat is such a huge part of our life also! and i could scream it from the roof top. we were also looking for ideas and i had thought about the cake topper, and little photos randomly on tables. I love the photo booth idea though, maybe i could make a mask of her face. an evie face.

  13. God, I love Moe. Moe has achieved the impossible by actually convincing Tyler that cats aren't all evil, scratch-happy, persnickety hellspawn; they can in fact prove perfect male companions, wont to sleep all day, eat, and sometimes roughhouse. So I owe him a massive debt of gratitude. That said, I think it would be easy and cheap to incorporate little Moe-pictures into the centerpieces, or some aspect of him anyway - mini ziplocs of hair samples, favorite toys (as though he does much more than laze), bronzed stool samples...maybe make a baller boutonniere or ring pillow rimmed with a "lion's mane" of his fur! Yeah, my ideas are out of control. I'm envisioning you two drunkenly crafting Moe-items, taking all mode of adhesive surfaces and mashing them about his girthy frame to apply a fur finish. Actually, I'm all about the cake topper idea - maybe go on Etsy and have someone sculpt Moe in exactly the position he's in in that last picture next to Mike - sit that isht right on top of tha cake - who WOULDN'T be charmed? (P.S. Third to last picture: February shot for the first ever National Association for Semi-erotic Man-Cat Love Calendar? I say YES.)

  14. I feel the same way about our pitbull, Kuta. I tell Mr Fix It all the time he loves the damn dog more than he loves me! He comes home from work and walks in to the dog and is hugging and kissing all over him while I am sitting 2 feet away just staring at him like What the eff?! Is the dog gonna 'ring your bell' tonight or am I?!? It's an ongoing joke between us. Anyhow, I think you could definitely incorporate Moe somehow. Not sure if you're naming tables, but maybe call one Moe's or something? Or I'm sure you can find a way to put some fun photos up in there somehow?

  15. You could do table numbers with different pictures of Moe, or a guestbook of Moe, or Moe eqsue favors. Or a BrittMikeMoe cake topper?

  16. Ha! we were both feeling like little crazy cat ladies cuz we felt sad about how our cat will be about 4 hours away from us during the wedding. I'm lovin' Anon's idea of projecting looped photos of Moe during the party. And taking some photos with him in your wedding garb at some point.

  17. OK OK OK OK

Here's what you need to do. take one of the above pictures, blow it up REEL big. Back it to plywood, then cut out Michael's face just large enough for people to put they're faces in it. Leave out a Poloroid camera.

    Let the magic begin.

  19. I saw a wedding online where the B&G had a rabbit that they had the flower girl escort up the aisle in a wagon. Would Moe sit in a wagon and chillax?
