Fuck Weddings Friday: McHale. Seacrest. PSYCH.

Sure. Let's talk about something other than weddings today.  I just had to share this... because when you are behind something so powerful that it gets mentioned next to the likes of Joel McHale and Ryan Seacrest... you just gotta share... even if it has nothing to do with weddings. As mentioned before, I work for the TV show Psych. And one of the fun perks of the job is getting to run the Psych Writer's Office Twitter account, @PsychWrites.  The great Jason Berger who helmed the Twitter before me, had a killer idea for an April Fool's joke... to change our Psych Twitter account name: @PsychWrites to a show that seems to get a lot of its "inspiration" from our show... @MentalistWrites.  We kept the joke going all day, never letting up that we were indeed NOT the writers of CBS's "The Mentalist." We have about 11,000 followers and I'm pretty sure at least a good 1/3 of them had the wool pulled over their eyes.  This lil prank ended up not being so little... we actually got some press for it. Check it out:

From Zap2it:

The "Psych" writers (normally @psychwrites) decided to pose as the show that ripped them off has striking similarities to their own series and became @mentalistwrites for the day:

@mentalistwrites: FUN FACT: Simon Baker's hair takes 7 days to prepare. We call it "Baking"
@mentalistwrites:
Simon Baker's hair can predict: 1. the weather 2. the ncaa tourney (we doubted it too until it picked northern iowa over kansas.) 3. flavor

@mentalistwrites:
Our People's Choice Award got stolen from our office. We found it the next day in Simon's trailer. Next to a Justin Bieber poster.

@mentalistwrites:
Simon's hair gets paid higher than Robin Tunney.
@mentalistwrites: Fact:Pilot script was titled THE METALIST about a dude who makes metal helmets. Due 2 a typo, it became The MENTALIST, the show u know 2day.

From iO9:

The PsychWrites twitter feed, manned by the writers of USA's giddy-goofy mystery series suddenly became MentalistWrites, which then proceeded to mercilessly tweak the Simon Baker-starring Mentalist, a show that, let's face it, bears some striking similarities to Psych — namely, a main character who solves crimes by being really, really observant.

Here are some screenshots of some of our favorite tweets:
Since it's Friday, and since we're all pretty fuckin burnt out on weddings anyway... here's a fun question: What is your FAVORITE April Fool's Day prank of all time?

  2. At the risk of sounding like a sycophant, I think your @MentalistWrites prank just went to the top of my "favorite pranks" list!! (My husband and I like Psych a lot and when I first saw the promos for the Mentalist, I spent a good solid ten minutes bitching about how they'd clearly ripped you guys off.)
